Day off. After a long lie-in and a leisurely lunch with windsurfing friends at the beach-front bar, first went out at 2pm. Not quite so windy as the last few days and hence was a fraction underpowered on my 4.6. With it being near low tide and the tide rising, the current that runs with the wind was very strong as well. So had some difficulty staying upwind, hence couldn't gybe on the inside, or do anything much apart from just trog upwind when I got planing. Also wasn't so up for it as yesterday; still felt a bit tired after a relatively late one last night. Got more and more frustrated, then to top it off after about 45 minutes when going for a tack on the inside fell onto my sail and put my left knee through the bottom panel. Result; a big tear, and session over. Will try and repair the tear with even more stickers tomorrow, but basically this tear is probably the final nail in the coffin for the trusty 4.6.

Fortunately there were a couple of our centre's 4.7's not being used; a 2002 Zone and a 2003 Search. Mark said the journalists from the German windsurfing magazine who had just arrived might want to use the new 2003 Search, so after spending 20-30 minutes faffing around putting more downhaul on it and changing one of the harness lines with my own, took out the Zone. Of course, being a design that is 3 or 4 years newer than my 4.6, was generally a much nicer sail to use, and also much lighter, probably since it was rigged on a higher percentage carbon and shorter mast (400 instead of 430) compared with my own C30% in the 4.6.

So went out for a 2nd session with the 4.7 from about 3.30pm until 5pm. Was nicely powered up this time, but after faffing around so much was no longer in the right frame of mind to do anything special, so just ended up mainly blasting back and forth. Also tide was now high so usual problems e.g. big wind shadow on the inside. Nothing special then, but Colin was out as well so was good fun sailing around with him. To end the day on a good note, was saved a very long swim back in (as is normal when the tide is high) by a wave that pushed me through the no-wind area most of the way back to the beach, so only a 5 minute swim at the end instead of 15.

Overall an OK day, better than 2 days ago, but nowhere near as good as yesterday. Fingers crossed for a good one tomorrow to restore some of the enthusiasm that yesterday's session had given me.
